Whitney Avenue Retaining Wall

The Hamden Chronicle, Thursday, October 5, 1950

This newspaper photo, taken 12 years after the 1938 hurricane, shows several houses along the west side of Whitney Avenue in the vicinity of #2260, where the Hamden Town House Restaurant stands today.  Pennsylvania Tires was located at #2276.  The distinctive concrete retaining wall is almost certainly the same one pictured below in the photo of the aftermath of the hurricane.  The fallen tree was located by the extreme righthand opening in the wall near the recapping sign.
