Dickerman Brothers Served
in Revolutionary War
The Jonathan Dickerman House is open to the public on Sundays in July and August from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
Two of the brothers of its first occupant served honorably in the war for American independence.
Jonathan's older brother Enos died in battle in New York City in 1776.

Jonathan's younger brother Hezekiah served for three days in the Lexington Alarm for New Haven. He is buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Isaac Dickerman, a first cousin of the brothers, also served in the war. Some records of his service are pictured below. He was a second lieutenant in Captain Samuel Peck's Company, Colonel William Douglas' Regiment, General James Wadsworth's Brigade, also serving in New York. He was listed as being from the "town of Mt. Carmel", although that locality, and all of what is now Hamden, was part of the town of New Haven at the time.
The last page of the records lists amounts he was paid, in the English currency of pounds - shillings - pence.
